Guest Speaker/Program

Rotarian Ann Catherine Murray, Executive Director of the Augusta Symphony, introduced our guest speaker, Dr. Dirk Meyer, Music Director of the Augusta Symphony and the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra in Minnesota.

Before Dr. Meyer took the podium, Anne Catherine announced that the Symphony had extended his contract until 2033 and this was a testament to the great work he has done and the ongoing support of our community.

Dr. Meyer described the upcoming programs offered including the Augusta Pops Series, two family oriented programs at the Columbia County Library, and the Symphony Series.

He played several excerpts from the Symphony Series which focuses on American music and was inspired by his journey to become a dual citizen after arriving from Germany 22 years ago.  Many of the composers in the series followed that same path and became US citizens after falling in love with our country and culture.

President Bill led us in reciting the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.
