Today’s Program

President Bill introduced our guest speaker Frank Spears, Community Volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Assessment Team. Three years ago, Frank retired as an All State Insurance agent in the Augusta area. He then joined American Red Cross as a volunteer for the Disaster Assessment Team. Frank shared his impactful experiences as a Red Cross Volunteer. He discussed Large disasters such as hurricanes, flooding and tornadoes in addition to small scale disasters such as house fires, flooding and tornadoes.

When disasters strike the Assessment team is called to the scene to perform Damage Assessments. The process of observing, analyzing and recording specific levels of disaster related damage to individual residences. They assist in sheltering, feeding and bulk distribution of materials (tarps, rakes, shovels, cleaning items, etc.)

The American Red Cross in the only organization assisting families in our 23 counties with emergency preparedness and disaster related needs – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with all assistance provided free of charge.
