Member Highlight- Denise Vickers came forward to tell us about this week’s Member Highlight. This week’s member in the Spotlight is Kevin Grogan, the Director of the Morris Museum of Art. Kevin has been a Rotarian since 2000, when he joined the Virginia Beach Rotary Club when serving as the CEO of the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia. Kevin loves the sense of connectedness Rotary creates between members of our club, the larger community, and the larger world. It gives him the sense that all of us Rotarians are part of something larger, something greater. Kevin grew up in Washington, DC about 3 miles from the White House. He has been married for more than 50 years to Kate, a retired schoolteacher who taught at EDS in Augusta for 17 years. They have two adult children in Austin, Texas, and two grandsons. Kevin is involved in a variety of arts-related non-profits and his passion is creating opportunities to educate a diverse audience about art. In his rare free time, Kevin is a brown-thumb gardener, an avid reader, and enjoys traveling. Kevin considers himself to be a life-long learner and fortunate to pursue his avocational interest in museums and art as a career for all his adulthood.

Sue Parr came forward and introduced our guest speaker Rick McLeod.

Rick is the current President and CEO of the SRS Community Reuse Organization. The SRS CRO was originally created as the Savannah River Regional Diversification Initiative (SRRDI) in 1993 to promote economic development by addressing changes at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site resulting from downsizing at the end of the Cold War.

The 22-member SRSCRO board is composed of business, government and academic leaders from Georgia and South Carolina. The SRSCRO region includes Richmond and Columbia counties in Georgia and Aiken, Allendale and Barnwell counties in South Carolina.

The mission of the SRS Community Reuse Organization is to facilitate economic development opportunities associated with Savannah River Site technology, capabilities and missions and to serve as an informed, unified community voice for the five-county, two-state region.

Rick mentioned they work to make the best use of excess and operating resources of the Savannah River Site for the economic well-being of the surrounding area. Along with this we develop and implement a regional economic plan utilizing the technology-based facilities at this site, while supporting new business ventures that create new jobs in the region.

President Shanda led us in the four-way test and adjourned the meeting.
