Meeting Minutes
President Shanda Vaughn rang the bell and called the meeting to order. George Hall gave the pledge and invocation. Brenda Durant gave the Sunshine Report today. Club members introduced their guests in attendance today.
Announcements
President Shanda shared the upcoming meeting schedule which includes;
- 9/6/21 - No Meeting-Labor Day
- 9/13/21 - Rotary Foundation Hamsa Thota
August is Membership Development Month and Past President Dustin Young will be speaking to our Rotaract Club at Augusta University on August 31.
President Shanda announced on behalf of Faye Hargrove that the Community Foundation of the CSRA is looking for a 4-5 person panel representing Rotary to review grant requests. Anyone interested should contact Faye.
Everyone is encouraged to update their pictures and contact info on the DacDb website. This is the best way to access information on our club so please keep it updated.
College Pick’em
Rick Franza reminded the club that we start this week. You should be getting an email from Ashley Duren for you to pick your games. If you do not receive the email please contact Rick, Ashley or President Shanda. Great prizes will be given out each week and there will be prizes for the top 3 at the end of the season. Remember, we are using the point spread to determine the winner of each game.

CART: President Shanda asked everyone to please continue to contribute to the blue buckets on the table or online at mycartfund.org using the same login credentials you use with DACDB.

The Global Grants Committee will meet today immediately following the Club meeting.
Veterans Day Celebration
The celebration will be held on 11/8/2021. If you are a veteran or someone in your immediate family is a veteran or currently serving in the military, please email President Shanda at vaughnshanda@gmail.com with your branch of service, rank and years of service.
New Member Induction
Jerry Woods introduced Stephen Wertz and Chris Melcher introduced Dr. Alex Schwarzmann as our newest members.
Paul Harris Fellow Presentation
President Shanda presented a Paul Harris Fellow to Leigh Porterfield Teffeteller, a PHF+1 pin to Susan Jernigan for her husband, Lee, and a PH+5 pin to Mark Gilliam. She has pins for club members who could not attend today and will present them as soon as possible.
Guest Speaker/Program
Dr. Paul Dainer introduced our guest speaker, Dr. Theodore Johnson, Co-Director of the Pediatric Immunotherapy Program at the Georgia Cancer Center on the campus of Augusta University. Dr. Johnson explained that his mission is to transfer results from the lab into therapies for pediatric patients.
He specializes in children with brain tumors and began this program 20 years ago. Since the formation of the program, he has witnessed remarkable success extending the quality of life using immunotherapies.
Because of their success, many of the largest children’s hospitals in the country have referred patients to AU for treatment. Dr. Johnson also commented on the tremendous work by the Ronald McDonald House on campus to help families who have relocated to seek treatment. The support provided by RMH is critical to the overall health and wellbeing of the patients.

Reminder, there is no meeting next week due to Labor Day. We will meet again on Monday, September 13 and our speaker will be Past District Governor Hamsa Thota.
President Shanda led us in reciting the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.
