Meeting Minutes

President Shanda Vaughn rang the bell and called the meeting to order. Nate Cartwright gave the pledge and invocation. Richard Rogers gave the Sunshine Report today. Club members introduced their guests in attendance today.

Announcements

President Shanda shared the upcoming meeting schedule which includes;

  • 8/16/21 - College Football Kick-Off
  • 8/23/21 - United Way Kick-Off
  • 8/30/21 - AU Pediatric Oncology Dr. Theodore Johnson
  • 9/6/21 - No Meeting-Labor Day
  • 9/13/21 - Rotary Foundation Hamsa Thota

Rotarian Highlight

President Shanda asked everyone to please continue to contribute to the blue buckets on the table or online at mycartfund.org using the same login credentials you use with DACDB.

Committee Updates

GRSP Committee - Susan Jernigan introduced our new GRSP Student, Ms. Kaushini Pathirana who is visiting from Sri Lanka.  Kaushini has gotten settled into University Village and is looking forward to her year studying at Augusta University.

Veterans Day Celebration

The celebration will be held on 11/8/2021.  If you are a veteran or someone in your immediately family is a veteran or currently serving in the military, please email President Shanda at vaughnshanda@gmail.com with your branch of service, rank and years of service.

Paul Harris Fellow Presentation

President Shanda has pins for club members and will present them as soon as possible.

Guest Speaker/Program

Tom Clarke introduced our guest speaker, Colonel Shaw Pick. Fort Gordon’ supports a population of 120, 209 which would make it the 6th largest city in Georgia. The following units are house at Fort Gordon: Army Future Command, Army Forces Command, National Security Agency-Georgia (joint), Army Reserve and National Guard, Army Intelligence and Security Command, Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Army Cyber Command, Army Training and Doctrine Command, and Army Material Command. They are the largest employer in the region and have an annual 2.7-billion-dollar economic impact on the CSRA. Fort Gordon collaborates with local entities to achieve success. Collaboration for workforce development includes K-12 STEM Outreach & Robotics Program Support, Adopt A School Program, Georgia H.S. Cybersecurity Pathway, Internship opportunities, Reciprocal advanced health care education & training, MOUs with NSA Centers of Academic Excellence (GTRI, Augusta University, Armstrong University, and 5 out of state schools). Cyber Innovation & Training Center and Hire Our Heroes & Job Fairs. Fort Gordon also provides force protection and security through Mutual Aid Agreements & Training-Fire, Police, SWAT, FEMA Region IV MOAs, Social Services MOAs, Interagency Partners-FBI, Utility Providers-Georgia Power & Augusta Utilities.

President Shanda led us in reciting the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.
