Meeting Minutes
President Elect Dustin Young, filling in for President Scott Williams, rang the bell and called the meeting to order. Anna Reeves gave the pledge and invocation. Thanks to our inside challengers Steve Hobbs and Stan Stanton we raised $410.93 for CART at our last meeting. This week the inside challenger is James Hefner and the outside challenger is Mimi’s Boutique. Steve Munn introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians. Gould Hagler gave the Sunshine Report.
Announcements:
- Ridge Whitehurst reminded the club that Rotary Family Night would be held Thursday August 1 at the Greenjackets baseball game. Flyers are on the tables today. Please reserve your tickets through Ridge by Wednesday July 31.
- President Elect Dustin reported that our new GRSP student, William Baerenholdt, will arrive on Saturday night and will attend our meeting next week.
- New Members: John Whitwell introduced our newest member, Melvin LaPan III, General Manager of Fast Signs.
Program:
Brenda Durant introduced our guest speaker and former club member, Scott Seidl, who is the Executive Director of the Augusta Players.
Scott provided us with an update of the Augusta Players, which will be celebrating its 75th anniversary next year. In addition to the regular performances, the Augusta Players also hosts Camp Wonderland, which is an art camp for autistic children. The camp is a great way for the Players to give back to the community and Scott is very touched by the letters and emails received from the parents of the participants.
During the upcoming season, the Augusta Players will perform a great lineup of shows beginning with Ragtime on 9/27/19. They will follow with a Christmas Carol, Momma Mia, and Cinderella over the rest of the season.
To help kick off the season, even before rehearsals have officially started, Scott brought a pianist and five of the sixty cast members from Ragtime. They delighted all in attendance by performing signature songs from the play.
Following the program, President Elect Dustin led us in reciting the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.
