Gulatti introduced the guests and visiting Rotarians. Willie Williams introduced the Interact students. At our last meeting, we raised $532.68. The sunshine report was presented by Tom Clark.

President Ed called on Jerry Rogers who came forward with a special request for the club to wish our former GRSP student, Calle, a happy 30th birthday.  Jerry made a video of the club to email Calle.

President Ed then called on President-Elect Leland Malchow to introduce our newest member Tripp Harrison, COO Goodwill Industries.

  • President Ed opened his remarks by thanking Rotarian Tim Owings for his very touching tribute at the funeral service of Past President Dee Bruker
  • President Ed reminded everyone to consider contributing to the Paul Harris Foundation and using the matching incentive offered by DG Hamsa Thota.
  • The District Grant Project is moving forward and will be a training session for all Georgia Law Enforcement Officers to learn to combat human trafficking.  Expected attendance is between 100-150 officers.
  • There are flyers on the table from club member Susan Everitt, promoting an upcoming Red Cross project.
  • The annual golf tournament will be May 1st, and there will not be a club meeting that week.
  • There is still time to register for the District Conference being held at the end of April at Jekyll Island.

President Ed called on Rick Franza to introduce our guest speaker, Ms. Melissa Furman, Assistant Dean of External Relations for the Hull College of Business at Augusta University.

Ms. Furman gave a much-abbreviated version of her 90-minute presentation she provides to businesses on understanding Millennials and how to welcome them into your business.

By 2025 this generation will make up 75% of the workforce and Ms. Furman shared the following insights about them;

  • They do not understand the workplace, so you have to orient/teach them
  • They view work as a thing you do, not a place you go to
  • They want to do a good job, and they want to be recognized for it
  • They are motivated by engagement
  • They want instant feedback and clear goals
  • They want to make a difference and have an impact
  • They are highly relational and not transactional
  • They don’t email or Facebook but love texting

Ms. Furman left us with the key to embracing millennials and having them embrace you and your organization.  The key is you have to answer their “why” questions.  By clearly communicating why they are doing something and showing them how it makes an impact you will bring them onboard and get the best out of them.

There is no meeting next week. Enjoy the Masters!  Our next meeting will be April 9 and the program will be an update on The Augusta Players.

The meeting was adjourned with the Four Way Test.
