Meeting Minutes

President Ed Presnell rang the bell and called the meeting to order.

Rotary Moment: One Day, One Focus, Ending Polio. President Ed announced the 5th annual World Polio Day event, co-hosted with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.  At 2:20 pm PDT (21:30) GMT) we will stream live from Gates Foundation headquarters in Seattle, bringing together more than 100,000 viewers around the world. Join us as global health experts and celebrities share our progress on the road to polio eradication.

Barry White led the club in the pledge and invocation. Clay Jolly introduced our guest visiting Rotarians and called on Leigh Porterfield to introduce students from Richmond Academy Interact Club. Thanks to our inside challenger Scott Kelly and our outside challenger Greg Hodges of Acura Augusta, the club raised $587.97 for CART at our last meeting. This week the inside challenger is Laverne Gold and the outside challenger is Sonny Tucker of Gerald Jones. Gould Hagler gave our Sunshine Report and announced member birthdays and club anniversaries. Jeff Simless provided a week eight Football Follies update. Laverne Gold was the weekly winner, selecting 90% of the winning teams. Jeff Partl, John Whitwell, and Ridge Whitehurst are in a three-way tie for second with 74% of winning teams picked.

FDR lead the fight against polio establishing a rehabilitation center at Warm Springs. World Polio Day 2017 is October 24.
