Meeting Minutes
President Ed rang the bell and called the meeting to order. The pledge and invocation was given by Erick Montgomery. Frank Ward welcomed our guests and visiting Rotarians. Thanks to Stacy Adkins and the outside challenger, Anonymous, the club raised $463.02 for CART at our last meeting. Richard Rodgers gave our Sunshine Report.
Announcements:
- Leigh Porterfield discussed the Rotary Club of Augusta Night at the Green Jackets, on August 17.
- President Ed introduced our GRSP student Jakob Fahl from Denmark and his friend Aaron from Zimbabwe. President Ed led the club in singing Happy Birthday to Jakob. Susan Jernigan presented a birthday cake to Jakob.
- Rotarians of United Ways campaign kickoff is scheduled for Monday, August 28th at the Bell Auditorium. This event will serve as our club’s official meeting.
- President Ed requested club members update their bio at www.DACdb.com.
Program:
Phil Wahl introduced our guest speaker Steven Wade, President Augusta Chronicle, along with Ashlee Duren and Damon Cline. The topic was “Introducing a new Downtown Augusta focused business magazine”.
Steven Wade discussed the sale of the Morris Publishing Group, and the Augusta Chronicle to Gatehouse Media. Billy Morris will remain as publisher of the Augusta Chronicle and will oversee the editorial page.
Steven introduced a new downtown focused business magazine called “1736”. The new magazine will be an advocate for a strong downtown. The magazine will be quarterly with a later September launch. The magazine is seeking investers based on a 3 – tiered system with an annual commitment.
Following the presentation, President Ed led us in reciting the four way test and then adjourned the meeting.
Next week’s meeting (8/21/17) is canceled. The next meeting will be August 28th at the Bell Auditorium.
