Meeting Minutes
President Jennifer Pennington rang the bell and called the meeting to order. The pledge and invocation was given by George Hall. Susan Everitt welcomed our guests and visiting Rotarians. Thanks to Chris Etterlee and the outside challenger, Fuller, Frost & Associates, the club raised $327.54 for CART at our last meeting. Richard Rodgers gave our Sunshine Report.
Announcements:
- Ed Presnell invited the club to attend the International Convention which will be this year in Atlanta on June 10th -14th. More information can be found at the reconvention.org or on the district website.
- Sophie Pederson shared her a video of her experiences with Rotary and her time in Georgia.
Program:
Tim Owings introduced our guest speaker David Alalof, The Shield Club of Augusta. “Helping First Responders When They Most Need Us”. David discussed how the Shield Club of Augusta provides assistance to First Responders and their families in cases of injury, disability or death. He mentioned that club is member funded (via dues) and had no expenses. The club has recently donated money for protective police vests to Richmond and Columbia County. The Shield Club recently donated $8,500 to the Richmond County Sheriff’s office for the purchase of a new K-9. He requested Rotary members join the Shield Club.
Following the presentation, President Jennifer led us in reciting the four way test and then adjourned the meeting.
Next meeting is May 17, 2017 and the speaker will be Congressman Rick Allen.
