Program: Hazel Cook the Executive Director of the Central Savannah River land Trust.
Jeb Murray, a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Savannah River Land Trust introduced the Executive Director, Hazel Cook to speak about the Land Trust. The mission of the trust is to permanently preserve the beautiful areas we have in the CSRA. Since 2001 the Trust has protected 6000 acres of land that include wetlands along the Savannah River, green spaces for public recreation on private property and access to the river. The Trust works to support local farms, timber farms and local landscapes. The Trust is also working with Aiken County, Columbia County and Richmond County to connect a 150 mile recreational Greenway. The Land Trust will identify the lands conservation benefit and make a conservation agreement resulting in a tax benefit to the owner. You can help by joining the Land Trust or talk with the Land Trust about preserving your property.
Following the presentation, Ed Presnell presented Hazel Cook with a book to be placed in the library.
