Scott Kelly introduced member talks, an opportunity for the club to hear interesting stories from our members. Our speakers for today are John Whitwell and Lowell Greenbaum.

John, was born on December 2, 1975 in Ontario Canada and lived in Niagara Falls. John played both hockey and golf all four years in college. He was captain of both teams in his senior year.  John moved to Augusta in 1998 to play for the Augusta Lynx. John played for the Lynx for four years and coached one year.  While in Augusta John met his wife Shannon and decided to stay. They have two children. In addition to many honors from his sports career, February 8 was named as John Whitwell day.

Lowell, is retired now after spending 46 years in academia. He received his PhD at Tufts University in Medical Physiology. Lowell was recruited to Columbia University for 16 years where he rose to Professor, was recruited to MCG for 16 years and retired as Professor of Pharmacology Emeritus, Dean of the Graduate School Emeritus and Vice President for research Emeritus. Lowell and Gloria, his wife of 66 years have three children, nine grandchildren and two greats. Jim Puryear introduced Lowell to Rotary in 1988. Lowell’s mother gave him a violin when he was 10, he was forced to practice and in 1941 was admitted to the High School of Music and Art. After 60 some years Lowell decided to open his violin case, had it repaired and found a teacher. Lowell treated the club by playing his 89 year old violin.
