Meeting Minutes
President Jennifer Pennington rang the bell and called the meeting to order. The pledge and invocation was given by Jeff Flowers. President Jennifer gave a “Rotary Moment”. She highlighted the United Way efforts to help the flood victims in Louisiana. The Red Cross has provided over 1 million meals to date for the people in need. Daniel Rhodes welcomed our guests and visiting Rotarians. Thanks to Scott Williams and the outside challenger, Cranston Engineering Group, the club raised $338.35 for CART at our last meeting. This week the inside challenger is Jeff Futrelle. Faye Hargrove gave our Sunshine Report.

Scott Kelly introduced new member David Bullington, Vice President, Queensborough National Bank. Welcome to Rotary, David!
Announcements:
- Jeff Simless discussed the rotary football pool (Football Follies). Members will be able to log on to Survey Monkey via Facebook, the bulletin or by email.
- The United Way Campaign Kick Off is August 29th at the Bell Auditorium.
- Conclave – GRSP host sign up for August 26th to 28th. See John David, Jennifer Pennington, or Pam Lightsey if you are interested.
Program:
Tim Owens introduced our guest speaker Dr. Zach Kelehear, Dean of the College of Education at Augusta University.
Dr. Kelehear provided his insights regarding the direction of the College of Education including outreach to the local school districts. His talk also covered the importance of transitions in life whether they are students new to school or teachers new to the profession. He emphasized the importance of teachers identifying and “knowing” the new students as they arrive to help them transition in the new setting. He also mentioned the importance of teaching educators regarding how to interact with parents. He also stressed the importance of mentorship in the graduates transition to the professional world.
Following the presentation, President Jennifer led us in reciting the four way test and then adjourned the meeting.
Next meeting September 12, 2016 and the speaker will be Sophie Pederson, our GSRP Student.
