Meeting Minutes
President Billy Franke opened the meeting and called on Jim Price who led the pledge and invocation. Frank Ward introduced the guests and visiting Rotarians. Thanks to last week’s Club Cart Challenger, Jerry Woods. This week the CART Challenger is Jim Puryear. Pete Michenfelder gave the Sunshine Report.
Announcements
The Augusta University Foundation has created a scholarship in the name of Brian Mulherin. It is to be awarded to a student who exhibits leadership and community involvement. RYLA will take place in Douglas, Georgia on June 23 and June 24. June 6 is the last day to sign up for the national conference.
President Billy Franke called on Phil Wahl to introduce our guest speaker, Todd Glover, the City Administrator of North Augusta to speak about the Hammonds Ferry Ballpark Village.
Todd Glover discussed Hammonds Ferry Ballpark Village and Project Jackson. He pointed out that Project Jackson was not originally a baseball project, but a hotel resort concept. He gave the club updates on the progress of the stadium as well as other upcoming developments in North Augusta.
The baseball park will not be ready for Opening Day but a July Fourth opening is possible.
In 2012 the city changed its philosophy and decided to target the millennial workforce which now outnumber baby boomers. He cited Project Slumber which was the construction of the Medac facility as an example.
Next meeting June 13, 2016 and the speaker will be Linda Tucciarone with Heritage Academy.
The meeting was adjourned following the recital of the Four-Way Test.
