President Billy called on Walter Sprouse to introduce our newest member, Betts Murdison, Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House.

President Billy Franke called on Mark Miller to introduce our guest speaker, Mr. Dan Blanton Chair of the American Bankers Association.

Mr. Blanton gave an update on the 194 banks in Georgia.  Our state is well banked when compared to others like Oregon which only has 26 banks chartered.  Over 90% of Georgia banks were profitable last year and over 98% of all banks are considered to be well capitalized.

Mr. Blanton shared some of the compliance struggles related to excessive regulation created by the Dodd Frank Act.  The Act was over 2300 pages long and calls for 400 new rules.  So far, 224 rules have been written creating 14,000 pages of documentation.  He estimates the compliance burden cost financial institutions an extra 10% in expenses each year.

He made three final points before closing with questions.  First, mobile banking with smartphones are the branch of the future, second, security is the foundation of the banking business, and finally, the future is bright for Georgia banks.

Next meeting April 25, 2016 and the speaker will be Tracy Ide with LifeLink of Georgia who will discuss Saving Lives Through Organ Donation.

The meeting was adjourned by reciting the four way test.
