Meeting Minutes

President Jerry opened the meeting and called on Judie Kaye who led the pledge and invocation.

Aimee Hall introduced the guests and visiting Rotarians. Brad Means gave the Sunshine Report and shared some UGA-Augusta connections.

President Jerry gave thanks to last week's Club Cart Challenger, Marilyn Bowcutt, and Outside Challenger

Mrs. Santa Claus who helped us raise $349.26 for the fund.

The Club CART Challenger for the meeting is Ridge Whitehurst and Scott Williams and the Outside CART Challenger is Cranston Engineering Group.

President Jerry made the following announcements/presentations:

- President Jerry had a moment of silence for Past President Bit Williams.

- The Salvation Army will be ringing the bell at meetings during December. Checks will be welcome.

- President Jerry mentioned the sign up for the Christmas Party guests on the 22nd.

New Members:

Dustin Young introduced new member Randall Zapata. New member Occupation: consulting-information technology. Welcome to Augusta Rotary, Randall!

Bob Evans introduced our guest speaker Jere W. Morehead, President of the University of Georgia.

President Morehead is a 1980 graduate of the UGA School of Law and the first alumnus of UGA to be named president in more than forty-five years. President Morehead is the Meigs Professor of Legal Studies in the Terry College of Business, where he has held a faculty appointment since 1986. He has received several University-wide teaching awards, including the Josiah Meigs Award--UGA's highest honor for teaching excellence--the Richard B. Russell Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, and the Lothar Tresp Outstanding Honors Professor Award.

Prior to becoming president in July 2013, President Morehead served UGA in many key administrative roles, including Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Vice President for Instruction, and Director of the Honors Program.

President Jere discussed UGA's incoming student academics. President Jere stated that 150 students from Augusta were signed up so far with early admissions. He also said 83 percent of freshman were graduating within 5 years at UGA. The national average is less than 60 percent in 6 years.

President Jere discussed UGA's local service to Augusta. He mentioned the Small Business Development Center, the Mustard Seed Dental Studio, the Carl Vinson Institute (leadership training), UGA Extension Offices in Richmond and Columbia County and the GRU Cancer Center.

Next weeks meeting will be the Christmas Luncheon.

The meeting was adjourned following the recital of the Four-Way Test.
