Meeting Minutes
President Jerry opened the meeting and called on Robert Osborne who led the pledge and invocation.
Aimee Hall introduced the guests and visiting Rotarians. Brad Means gave the Sunshine Report and shared some Black Friday facts.
President Jerry gave thanks to last week's Club Cart Challenger, Leland Malchow, who helped us raise $184.22 for the fund.
The Club CART Challenger for the meeting is Forester Adams and the Outside CART Challenger is Meybohm Scarborough Insurance.
President Jerry made the following announcements/presentations:
- President Jerry asked for nominations by members of the club for president-elect, secretary, treasurer, and four directors. Nominations shall be voted for at the annual meeting on January 5th, 2015. Nominations are required at least one month prior to the annual meeting.
- The Salvation Army will be ringing the bell at meetings during December. Checks will be welcome.
Tim Owings issued a challenge to Club members. Tim will match (up to $250 total) donations to Polio.
Ned Murray introduced our guest speakers Grace Belangia and Eric Parker, the Clubhouse.se
Eric Parker is one of the leading Innovation Architects in the nation and has worked with many top research institutions, technology incubators, and Fortune 500 companies. He is co-founder of the Clubhouse, co-founder and board chair of Hack Augusta, and co-organizer of TEDxAugusta.
Grace Belangia is Community Development Strategist for CONima which focuses on community building to support innovation economies. She is a founding member of the Clubhouse, Director of Hack Augusta and lead curator for TEDxAugusta.
Topic: What are Hacker/Maker/Coworker/Spaces. Why should you care?
Eric and Grace presented a video titled "Excellence by Design". The video chronicles the Clubhouse efforts to design Augusta's future through the development of technology as a cultural institution. The Clubhouse is an innovative cooperative that offers training, office space, meeting space, tools and fellowship with others interested in technology, new media, and innovation based business. The Clubhouse is a non-profit organization located at 540 Telfair Street and hosts 50 to 60 events a year. Grace described the Clubhouse as a "Rotary for Geeks", a place to create/mentor and develop seed money.
Eric and Grace also described Hack Augusta, the Founders Circle, Young Makers, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Grace and Eric are organizing a TEDxAugusta event to be held at the Imperial Theater on January 30, 2015. The event promotes Ideas Worth Spreading, with a theme of "Connections".
Next week's speaker will be Carol Dadisman, Author of "Dear Old UGA"
The meeting was adjourned following the recital of the Four-Way Test.
