Meeting Minutes

President Jerry opened the meeting by thanking everyone for their participation in our 100 Year Anniversary meeting and related activities. It was a wonderful program and great celebration of our efforts. He encouraged all of us to not to rest on our laurels but to start working towards our next 100 years of service.

He then called on George Hall who led the pledge and invocation. President Jerry called on Thom Tuckey to give the Sunshine Report. Susan Barcus introduced the guests and visiting Rotarians. President Jerry reported that the Club did not have a Club CART Challenge or outside challenger last week due to special meeting last week, however, we raised $168.00 from donations for CART. This week's CART Challenger is Barry White. He also recognized both Barry White and Brinsley Thigpen for their efforts in the Ironman event this past weekend. Barry and Brinsley shared a team and participated in honor of one of their coworkers.

President Jerry called on Pam Lightsey and special guest, District Governor Ted Thompson, to make a special presentation to Dustin Young who became our newest Will Watt Fellow. Dustin, representing Wells Fargo, donated $1,000 to benefit the GRSP Program which currently has 51 students from 22 countries attending 27 schools in Georgia. Pam took the opportunity to remind the club that the GRSP Conclave will be held in Augusta in August 2016. Anyone interested in housing a GRSP student for that weekend should contact Pam.

President Jerry called on Assistant District Governor, Kathy Tuckey to introduce our guest speaker, District Governor Ted Thompson. DG Thompson has held several positions and received numerous awards and citations since joining the Sandersville Rotary Club in 2007. Prior to joining the Club, he owned and operated a successful plant nursery for 30 years in Florida.

DG Thompson presented President Jerry with a certificate from Rotary International recognizing our 100 Year Anniversary. He also recapped several of the projects that are important to all Rotarians such as the eradication of polio, eliminating hunger in the world, and improving the overall health of other countries by providing them with clean water.

In quoting Confucius, "it is better to light a single candle than curse the darkness", he challenged each of us to light a candle and do all we can to make our communities and our world a better place.

Next week's speaker will be Mark Lytle, Vice Chancellor for economic development at UGA .

The meeting was adjourned following the recital of the Four-Way Test.
