Today’s Program

Sue Par came forward and introduced our Guest speaker, Mayor Garnett Johnson – 85th Mayor of Augusta who took office in January 2023.

He presented an update to the club regarding his first 90 days in office as Augusta’s mayor. He spoke specifically about his approach outlined during his campaign and his approach to leading the city that is centered around “Growth, Action, and Results”. He updated the club on various topics including the ambulance services for the city, new approaches to keeping the city clean and maintaining our landscapes, and disposal services in the city. He explained that as a small business owner, he is keenly focused on optimization of the city’s resources and through a fiscally conservative lens, he plans to do the most for the citizens of Augusta through its approximately $1B annual budget. He spoke about challenges unique to government and his approaches to navigating through those challenges in a collaborative manner.

Following his initial comments, there was an open forum of questions and discussion between Mayor Johnson and the club members.

At the conclusion of the program, the club presented Mayor Johnson with a Peace Pole with hopes that this will be displayed prominently in the city’s Municipal Building.

President Faye led us in the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.
