Meeting Minutes

President Faye Hargrove rang the bell and called the meeting to order.

Linda Johnson gave the Pledge and Invocation.

Richard Rogers gave the Sunshine Report.

Interact Students introduced themselves.

Visiting Guest were introduced.

Announcements:  

  • Next Week Speaker: PDG Mike Muldowney will speak on Rotary Youth Exchange Program
  • New Member Reception – March 23rd, 5:30 – 7:00pm – Sacred Heart
  • No meeting April 3rd, Masters Week
  • Rotary Golf Clinic – Tuesday April 18th, West Lake Country Club.
  • Club Golf Outing is Tuesday May 2nd, No regular meeting on Monday, May 1st.
  • Contact President Faye if you are interested in going to an Atlanta Braves games Sunday, June 11th.

Today’s Program

Brittany Burnette came forward and introduced our Guest speaker, Jackson Drumgoole – Founder of Bridge Builder Community. Their mission is to assist youth who are aging out of the foster care system reach their full potential by providing safe housing opportunities and life skills training. Their vision is to see every child in a safe, stable, and supportive environment transitioning successfully into adulthood. He touched on their plans to build a 3200 sg ft Community Center in Richmond County in addition to a Tiny Home community.    

In Richmond County, they found that 208 children entered foster care during the pandemic, and as of 2022, 400 children are in foster care in this region.

Between 31 percent and 46 percent of former foster children will become homeless by the age of 26 years old.

Research shows that up to 80 percent of foster children will develop some form of mental illness.

71 percent of young women who were in foster care are pregnant by the age of 21.   

75 percent of child sex trafficking victims have been in foster care in Augusta.    

President Faye led us in the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.
