Meeting Minutes
President Faye Hargrove rang the bell and called the meeting to order.
Faye gave the pledge and invocation, and had a moment of silence for Dr. Bill Bloodworth.
Richard Rodgers gave the Sunshine Report today.
Club members introduced their guests in attendance today.
Announcements
- GRSP student Simbai needs transportation for upcoming events. Please contact Faye or Susan Jernigan, if you can provide transportation.
- Please continue to sign in each week so that we have a record of attendance.
- Everyone is encouraged to update their pictures and contact info on the DacDb website. This is the best way to access information on our club so please keep it updated.
- Emily Rodgers shared her GRSP summer school experience at the University of Oslo.
- Anna Reeves and Kyla Cooper gave an update on the Literacy Committee.
- Rick Franza announced the College Pick’em winners for the last two weeks. Congratulation Ed Presnell and Eddie Booth.
CART: President Faye asked everyone to please continue to contribute to the blue buckets on the table or online at mycartfund.org using the same login credentials you use with DACDB.
This weeks inside challenger is Steve Munn and the outside challenger is MAI Risk.
Guest Speaker/Program
Paul Dainer introduced our guest speaker Dr. Gary Senn, Director of the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center at USC Aiken.
The presentation was titled Inspiring Others to Explore the Majesty of the Heavens.
Gary talked about the Hubble Space Telescope and the Webb Space Telescope. The Hubble Space Telescope was launched April 24, 1990. The telescope orbits earth in 95 minutes and is 340 miles above earth. The Hubble Space Telescope was able to capture the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 collide with the planet Jupiter, The Hubble Deep Field image captured 3,000 distant galaxies. The Webb Space Telescope was launched December 25, 2021. The telescope is 940,000 miles above earth and orbits the sun. The Webb telescope has provided images of the Stephens Quintet, the Southern Ring Nebula and the Carina Nebula. He also talked about the Artemis 1 space rocket. A large rocket that will carry 4 people to the moon. See more at www.usca.edu/rpsec
President Faye led us in reciting the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.

Guest Speaker/Program
There was no formal speaker today as this was our last official meeting on the Rotary year. President Shanda gave her heartfelt appreciation to the Club for their support this year and specifically thanked those who have mentored and guided her during the year.
Following her remarks, she invited all club members who had served as President of another club to stand and be recognized. She then invited all prior Augusta Rotary Club Presidents in the room to line up in preparation for the Passing of the Gavel ceremony.
The gavel passed from one to another with each person stating their name and years of service. It was quite an impressive group of men and women who have given of their time and talents to serve the club.
After receiving the gavel, Shanda presented it to President Elect Faye Hargrove and congratulated her on her new role.
President Faye thanked Shanda for her service and presented her with a gift from the Club and her new pin. Shanda then graciously accepted the gifts and her new title of Immediate Past President.
President Faye reminded the club of our next meeting on July 11 where we will have our Club Assembly then she led us in reciting the four-way test and adjourned the meeting.
