Meeting Minutes

President Shanda Vaughn rang the bell and called the meeting to order.

President Shanda led us in the Pledge and Invocation.

Brenda Durant came forward and gave the Sunshine Report.  

Club members introduced their visiting guess today.

Anna Reeves came forward and updated the club on the Literacy Committee.

Announcement:

  • The Literacy Committee would like to Finish this Rotarian Year Strong! Reading has many benefits, including assisting young children develop good vocabulary skills and valuable family bonding time.  Remember when we were all young and did not have Video Games to occupy our time.
  • Request to Support the 6 Richmond County Libraries
  • We are requesting donations of funds to support the efforts of providing Educational Activity Toys for all of the six Richmond County Libraries.  These items would be used to enhance the love of literacy and encourage learning for children.
  •  In addition, any Rotarians that are interested to volunteer to read for Story Time at the various libraries or host a Workshop should contact Anna Reeves at pawsandclawspetbakery@gmail.com.  Examples include, but are not limited to: kid entrepreneurship; Personal Saving/Budgeting for kids and teens; Gardening, etc.

CART: President Shanda asked the club to contribute to the blue buckets.

Guest Speaker/Program

Tom Denlinger came forward and introduced today’s speaker, Jeff Eiseman, President of Green Jackets Baseball.

Jeff has a long history in the baseball business. He has had oversight of the Augusta franchise since 2005. Former EVP of Ripken Baseball (2002-2012). EVP of Las Vegas Triple - A franchise (1995-2002). Owner /Operator of Boise Hawks Professional Baseball (2014 -current). 28 Seasons in Minor league Baseball.

Jeff informed the club that the Green Jackets were acquired in late December 2021 by Diamond Baseball Holdings, LLC. They are the largest holder of Minor league Baseball franchises ever in the history of the game.

With new ownership the team will keep the same leadership in place, cater to the community and has a 10-year agreement with the Atlanta Braves.

Jeff gave a us history lesson in Baseball in Augusta and named many Green Jackets alumni that went on to play in Major League baseball.   

 He mentioned The Green Jackets are currently 1st in attendance for the Carolina League averaging 4,089 and led all Low-A attendance in 2021 with 211,561 fans.  

 President Shanda led us in reciting the four-way test and adjourned the meeting.
