Meeting Minutes

President Shanda Vaughn rang the bell and called the meeting to order. Tom Clark gave the pledge and invocation. No Sunshine Report today. Tom Clark recited the poem Old Ragged Flag. 

Veterans Day Celebration  

  • Dr. Toney directed the Greenbrier Band through its musical performance to celebrate Veteran’s Day. 
  • President Shanda Vaughn invited the members of the board to join her in awarding recognition items to Rotarians who are veterans of the US Armed Forces. 
  • Members recognized included Dr. James Becton, Kevin Belanger,Dr. Mac Bowman, Ken Bradshaw, Thomas Clark, Neil Dickert, Dunbar Dyches, Rick Franza, David Hogg, David Hudson, Christopher James, Bill Kemp, Dr. Thomas Kiernan, John Mitchell, Darin Myers, Ed Tarver, Haskell Toporek, Herb Upton, and Dennis Williams.
  • President Shanda Vaughn invited Hollis Bush, Interim President & CEO of Forces United to come forwards. She presented him with a check for $1,000 to Forces United as a contribution from our club on in honor of our veteran members.  

Announcements 

  • Visiting Guests: Club members introduced their guests in attendance today.
  • Interact Students: Interact students from the Academy of Richmond County introduced themselves and were welcomed to the meeting. 
  • President Shanda asked members to please continue to sign in each week so that we have a record of attendance.
  • Our GRSP student, Kaushini Pathirana is looking to get to know Rotary Club members. Please contact Susan Jernigan or Surenda Gupta if you have ideas for things she can be a part of.  

CART 

President Shanda asked everyone to please continue to contribute to the blue buckets on the table or online at mycartfund.org using the same login credentials you use with DACDB.   

College Pick’em 

Rick Franza is out of town and will update the club at next week’s meeting.  

Guest Speaker/Program

There was none today but next week’s speaker will be District Governor, Ed Presnell.  

Signature Fundraisier 

President Shanda Vaughn reminded the club about the signature fundraiser to support Augusta Locally Grown. The raffle for a Mercedes Benz GLA 250 has begun. Tickets are $100 each and a maximum of 1500 tickets will be sold. Each Rotarian is asked to purchase or sell three tickets to support the fundraiser. 

Service Projects 

President Shanda Vaughn reminded the club about the upcoming service project. The service project will be Monday November 29, 2021 from 5pm to 9pm at Ronald McDonald House of Augusta to decorate for the holiday season. She also reminded the club to collect can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. 

President Shanda led us in reciting the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.
