The Rotary Club of St. Simons Island hosts TAPS to honor the men and women who have fallen in the service of our country, those who valiantly served and returned, and those who are serving today. The tribute began in 1991 as an annual observance of Memorial Day.
We appreciate the help given by the Glynn County Parks and Recreation Department, the Glynn County Police Department, the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America and the JROTC unit Glynn Academy. Also, thanks go out to Woody Woodside and Glenn Queener for the assistance they have provided.
We appreciate the musical contributions by the Golden Isles Community Concert Band directed by Noah Madison, vocalist Terry Clayton, accompanist Kathleen Turner, bagpiper Wright Sloan, trumpeter Rich Wagner and sound engineer Tony McCall.
Veterans’ Walk and Flag Sales
The Rotary Club of St. Simons Island generates the funds to put on this event through its year-round sales of commemorative bricks for Veteran’s Walk and the sale of flags to local businesses and individuals.
Veterans’ Walk is the brick walkway which surrounds the flagpole in front of the bandstand at Neptune Park on St. Simons Island. This memorial pays tribute to the men and women who serve or have served this country in all branches of the military at war and in times of peace.
We honor their courage and commitment.
American flags as well as state flags and flags of many other countries may also be purchased on line at www.ssirotary.org. Flags and bricks are also offered for sale before and after the TAPS event at the table set up for that purpose.
