The Cart Challenger for this week was Tony Lever and the outside challenger was The Pine Straw Store.

Thom Tuckey presented the Sunshine Report.

President Elect Kevin thanked everyone for their participation last week in assembly day and reminded everyone to vote on Tuesday July 20th.

He invited our new Roteract Student, Irina Melnic, to the podium to address the group. Irina discussed her involvement with a variety of fundraisers and desire to help others. Pam Lightsey is her student advisor on campus.

President Elect Kevin then turned the podium over to Pam Lightsey who introduced our guest speaker, Tim Mannix, with Stop Hunger Now. Tim is a former Army Lieutenant and had 22 years with IBM before starting his own consulting company in 1989. He has been a Rotarian since 1996 with the Cary Rotary Club in North Carolina. He has served as Secretary, VP and President. Tim also served as District Governor for District 7710.

Tim shared several statistics which illustrated the severity of this worldwide problem and discussed the organizations food packaging program that is being very effective. He stressed the point that the key to eliminating worldwide hunger was by increasing awareness so that individuals can make a conscientious choice to make personal changes that will have a positive impact on the problem. With increased awareness he hoped individuals, schools, businesses, churches, and communities would come together to sponsor food packaging events. The meals only cost 25 cents each and the Stop Hunger Now organization provides all of the food, packaging materials, and supplies. Interested groups only have to pay the cost of the meal and provide volunteers to package them. Following his presentation, Tim called on Pam Lightsey to discuss the details of ASUs upcoming food packaging event.

Pam shared with the group that on 9/11/10 from 9:00 a.m. to noon they will be packaging meals at Christenberry Field House on Wrightsboro Road. This event is a joint effort with the Golden Harvest Food Bank and is supported by the Augusta Chronicle, ASU Alumni Association, and ASU Greek Council. Everyone is encouraged to participate by raising funds and volunteering on the day of the event.

The meeting was adjourned with the 4-way test.
