Meeting Minutes for Monday, June 14, 2010
President Bob called the meeting to order.

The pledge and invocation were lead by Betty Dykes.

The Sunshine Report was delivered by Richard Rogers.

Special presentations were made by Billy Franke and Kevin Wade. Billy Franke presented a Rotary check to Dr. Zimmerman of the Challenge Academy and Kevin Wade presented a $1,000 Rotary check to Rick Hall of Augusta Tech in support of their GED Program.

David Hogg introduced the program speaker Paul Simon.

Paul Simon offered a compelling program to support the city of Augustas return on investment for the riverfront development in downtown. During the mid 80s a study was commissioned by Augusta Tomorrow to determine the future of downtown Augusta. The study revealed the need for a hotel/convention center and a Class A office building. The cost: $43.5MM. The city of Augusta obtained an Urban Development Grant (UDAG) to provide $7.5MM in funding for the project. The UDAG loan was interest free and had a maturity of 30 years. Billy Morris agreed to offer his support through the Augusta Riverfront LLC. The city invested $9.9MM, investors $9MM, UDAG debt of $7.6MM and a loan from First Union 0f $17MM to fund the initial project. In 1999 the city participated in the expansion of the conference center and the second hotel with an additional investment of $3.6MM. Last year the city received a return of $2.7MM in revenue or a return of 21.64% on its investment. The total economic impact for our community has been $435MM and 250 new jobs. The TEE Center (planned for the old cotton warehouse at Reynolds and 9th Street) will be a huge asset for the city of Augusta. The TEE Center will have a capacity of 3,800 that will include 1,800 for dining. The TEE Center will be connected to the Riverfront Conference Center and hotels. Planned cost for the TEE Center will be $38MM and $10 for a new parking deck.

Paul also presented the new Junior Invitational Golf Tournament at Sage Valley Golf Club on April 18 22, 2011. Electrolux will be the main sponsor. This inaugural event will bring the top fifty-four junior amateur players from around the world to Augusta. They will stay on property in one of the Sage Valley Golf Club cottages and all food and beverage will be provided. Parents of competitors will be invited. The National First Tee and the local Augusta/Aiken Chapters will be beneficiaries of funds raised.

The meeting ended with the 4 Way Test.
