Kevin Wade called meeting to order.
Pledge and Invocation were lead by Charles Shaeffer
Guests of the Club: Collette Hughes. Kelly ONeal guest of Kevin Wade. Tim Owens guest of Dave Steele. Visiting Rotarian Pam Lightsey brought a guest, Matthew Poeske.
The Cart Challenger was Herb Upton
Daniel Stewart announced the Downtown Loft Tour benefiting Safe Homes of Augusta. Daniel Stewart also introduced his father Charles Stewart as our clubs newest Paul Harris Fellow.
The Sunshine Report was give by Greg DeLoach.
Pam Lightsey introduced the program for the day. Melanie Gjovino, a member of the GSE team that went to India, presented the program. Melanie shared a number of slides from the trip and discussed the many opportunities the team experienced. It began in the state of Karnataka. Melanie described the beauty but also noted the population. She said that it is approximately the size of Georgia with more than four times the population.
The GSE team visited a number of schools, hospitals, cultural centers, churches, temples and even had time for shopping and a tour of a coffee plantation. On one of the tours she noted the opportunity to see elephants working with their handlers.
In addition to the other tours, the team attended several Rotary Club meetings, sometimes as many as three in a day. Melanie then presented Kevin with 5 Rotary Banners from clubs that she had visited on her trip.
In summary, Melanie noted that it was a life changing experience and amazing place. India is a beautiful and she is very thankful to Rotary for giving her the opportunity to be a part of the team.
The golf tournament will be next week Tuesday so there will be no Monday meeting. The Loft Apartment Tour tickets are $15 in Advance and $20 day of the event.
