April 19, 2010 Meeting
President Bob opened the meeting and called on Rabbi David Sirull, who led the pledge and invocation. Richard Isdell introduced guests and visiting Rotarians.
President Bob recognized two visiting Rotarians- Dean Jackson, former District Governor from Utah and Mr. Nagata from Japan. Mr. Nagata presented President Bob with a Rotary banner from his local club in Japan. They are visiting several Rotary clubs in the course of their work in preparation for the 102nd Convention of Rotary International in New Orleans in May 2011.

President Bob recognized John Bell, visiting Kiwanian and good friend of James Carlisle Overstreet, whom he presented as a new Paul Harris Fellow
Connie Harris presented our newest member, Forrester Adams. Forrester is with Meybohm Scarborough Insurance
President Bob recognized Meredith Stiff who presented Sandy Stevenson as a new Paul Harris Fellow.
Jeanette Cumming introduced Gloria Lewis, our guest speaker. Gloria is the Executive Director of the CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority. The EOA was founded after the enactment of the 1964 Economic Opportunity Act. Her organization serves economically disadvantaged people in14 counties in the CSRA. CSRA EOC is a privately funded organization, although it does receive both state and federal funding through grants and contracts. Her organization has been providing additional assistance through the acquisition of federal stimulus money.
Ms. Lewis highlighted some of the programs her organization provides, such as TEFAP, which is an emergency food assistance program. She also talked about the Senior Citizen Center in Burke County which provides on-site meals, home delivered meals, nutrition education and recreation education. Ms. Lewis also talked about HOPE (Home Ownership & Education,) a program that provides education relative to the various aspects of home ownership to include foreclosure prevention counseling. She also shared about The Way Home IDA Program, which is a matched savings program for first-time homebuyers. Eligible participants can earn up to $20,000 towards down payment and closing costs. Federal stimulus funds have been made available for this and other programs her organization administers.
Because of the lateness of the hour, she was not able to go into detail concerning Home First Augusta but she referred to the brochures she had made available at each table.
The meeting was adjourned following the recital of the Four-Way Test.
