Information on Christ Community Health Services (CCHS)
CCHS was established in July 2007 to proclaim Jesus as Lord and to demonstrate His love through the healing ministry for the uninsured and underinsured. It started operating the clinic in 2007 with 4 exam rooms, 2 physicians, 2 nurses and 12 staff. Patient population reflects the County population. CCHS has patients from Aiken, Thompson, Augusta, etc.
CCHS follows Memphis clinic model, which was founded in 1995 with four providers. In 2010 the Memphis clinic is expected to have 30 + providers and expected see in excess of 100,000 patients.
Some statistics on the service area:
- 75,000 uninsured
- 80,000 living below poverty level
- 20,000 + unemployed (as of December)
- Augusta second highest concentration of working poor in metropolitan areas of USA. These are qualified as working but not enough money to buy health insurance.
There are currently two doctors who work at University hospital and the clinic to ensure continuity of care. These two have internal medicine and pediatric focus and experience. A family practice physician is expected to join them in summer of 2010. University hospital is a big supporter of CCHS.
The payment mechanism for patients is as follows:

2. Fees based on household income and size.
3. $25 to $35 cost of visit

Reaching Next Generation of Physicians
- 4 MCG internal medicine residents in a 3-year continuity clinic rotation
- Create awareness of needs of the underserved population
- Transplant the concept in other communities
Where CCHS is today
- Booked 6 to 8 weeks out for patient visits
- Need more patient exam rooms
- Need more room for providers
Where CCHS is going
- Historic Widows Home in downtown Augusta.
- There will be 12 patient exam rooms
- Expected to see 20,000 to 25,000 patients
