Guest Speaker/Program

Dustin Young introduced our guest speaker, Ms. Jennifer Bowen, VP Destination Development and Community Engagement.

Ms. Bowen talked to the club about a new program called Authentic Augusta which includes 10 experiences intended to showcase “the best sights and immersive experiences our city has to offer”.

To highlight one of the experiences, and because our meetings are held at the historic Enterprise Mill, we were joined by “Mary” dressed in authentic 1800’s attire who invited us to come over to the new employee orientation being held at the textile mill where we will learn about the importance of the Augusta Canal to the industrial revolution in Augusta.  This experience will include learning how to work the loom to make cloth.

The other experiences include learning about Augusta’s art scene, speaking to President Wilson’s mother, cycling around town, learning to be a bartender, hearing from Augusta National’s black caddies, and learning about the canal’s ecosystem by getting into the water and collecting samples.

Each experience is held twice per month and cost $20-25 per person.  Reservations are required.  Groups are encouraged and schedules will be arranged to meet their needs.  Anyone interested in learning more can go to visitaugusta.com/authentic.

Faye led us in reciting the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.
