Meeting Minutes

President Faye rang the bell and called the meeting to order. 

Brittany Burnett gave the pledge and invocation

Richard Rodgers gave the Sunshine Report today.

Club members introduced their guests in attendance today.

Announcements

• No meeting on February 20^th.
• Kayla Cooper is looking for volunteers to help read in schools.
• On the first Monday, of the month, Jerry Woods and the membership committee will be available to spend 15 minutes sharing information about Rotary International and our club with prospective members.
• Please complete our club’s Google form to sign up to be a Cart Challenger.
• Dr. Thomas Clark was the winner of the Mercedes. A check for $25,000 was presented to Jennifer Jones, the executive director of the Apparro Academy. A check for $18,000 was presented to the Horizon Foundation.
• February 21^st – YPA is inviting members of our club to join them for a Mixer at the Crowne Plaza from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
• Speech Contest - The Rotary Club of Augusta is accepting contestants for its 2023 speech Contest. The theme is “Imagine Rotary”.
• CART: Faye asked everyone to please continue to contribute to the blue buckets on the table or online at mycartfund.org using the same login credentials you use with DACDB.

Guest Speaker/Program

Our guest speaker was Monty Osteen, with Augusta Tomorrow. Monty talked about the Springfield Baptist Church and the Springfield Village Park. He showed a documentary called “And they went down North to the River.” The documentary discussed the historical significance of the Springfield Village and Baptist Church to Augusta. The Springfield Church is the oldest African American church in the US. The church was built in 1801, but founded in 1787.  Morehead College was established at the Church in 1867. The current Springfield park was built in 2002 and has two sculptures, The Tower of Inspiration, and “ And They Both Went Down to the River” designed by Richard Hunt.  

Faye led us in reciting the four-way test and then adjourned the meeting.
