Program:

Tim Owings introduced our speaker, club member Shell Berry, who is the President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Augusta.  The Community Foundation was established in 1995 by local business and community leaders in order to serve as a conduit between donors and beneficiaries.  There are over 800 community foundations nationwide and 13 in the state of Georgia.

As a 501c3, donors can make tax deductible gifts to the foundation and designate how those gifts are spent in the community.  The Foundation handles all of the administrative tasks so that individuals and corporations do not incur the burden or expense of running their own foundations.

The Foundation currently manages 215 different funds with over $70 million in assets.  During 2016, the Foundation will distribute $615,000 in community grants with each grant being $15,000.  Since inception, they have distributed over 600 grants totaling more than $7 million.

President Jennifer led us in reciting the four way test and then adjourned the meeting.

Our next meeting will be on November 14th with speaker Bill Curry to talk about A Football Life.
