Meeting Minutes
President Jennifer Pennington opened the meeting and called on George Hall who led the pledge and invocation. Margaret Woodard introduced the guests and visiting Rotarians. Thanks to last week’s Club Cart Challenger we raised $462.15. This week’s Inside Challenger is Dr. Tom Kiernan. Faye Hargrove gave the Sunshine Report. Jeff Simless announced the results of the Football Follies. President Jennifer Pennington introduced new member Dr. Zach Kelehear, the Dean of the College of Education of Augusta University. A reminder was given about the upcoming District Conference as well as the speech contest.
President Jennifer Pennington called on Dr. Lowell Greenbaum to introduce Dr. Peter F. Buckley, the Dean of the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.
Dr. Peter F. Buckley became the 26th Dean of the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in 2011. He is a psychiatrist and expert in schizophrenia and also a Professor of Psychiatry, Pharmacology and Radiology at MCG. He lauded efforts made by Augusta University President Dr. Brooks Keel as related to greater community involvement. MCG is the ninth largest medical school in the nation and its mission is doing good for the health of Georgia. The carry out this mission MCG has campuses throughout the state—Augusta, Athens, Brunswick/Savannah, Albany and Rome. MCG continues to produce well trained and highly prepared graduates, many whom remain in state (around 28%). He closed by discussing the Georgia Cannabidiol Study which was pushed by Governor Nathan Deal and Representative Allen Peak and a cutting edge endeavor.
Next meeting will be November 7, 2016.
The meeting was adjourned following the recital of the Four-Way Test.
