Meeting Minutes
President Billy rang the bell to call the meeting to order and mentioned that this is “Youth Service” Month. The pledge and invocation was given by Barry White. Jita Morrison welcomed our guests and visiting Rotarians.
CART: Thanks to last week’s inside challenger, T.R. Reddy and outside challenger, Master Automotive, we raised $374.25 for CART. This week the inside challenger is the Chris McKinney and the outside challenger is Meco, Inc.
There was no Sunshine Report this week.
Announcements:
- The District Conference will be May 13th-15th at the Savannah Desoto Hilton. Pam Lightsey can be contacted for further information.
- Service Project- Fire Run (5 volunteers needed) and Phinizy Swamp (ten volunteers needed) both will be held this Saturday, April 30th,
- Group Study Exchange- We need of five Rotarians to house 3 men and 3 women for Tuesday night, May the 10th
- The club will hold its annual golf tournament on Monday, May 16th, more details will follow
- The Past President’s Luncheon will be held on May 5th at the Augusta Country Club.

President Billy called on Kevin Grogan to introduce our new member, Linda Tucciarone, Heritage Academy.
President Billy called on Shanda Vaughan to introduce our new member, Leigh Porterfield, Edward Jones.
President Billy called on Becky Shealy to introduce our guest speaker, Ms. Tracy Ide of LifeLink Georgia. Ms. Ide spoke to us about how lives are saved through organ donation.
LifeLink of Georgia is a non-profit organ procurement agency that serves all of Georgia and 2 counties in South Carolina. It has a partnership with Augusta Aviation for the receiving and delivering organs for transplant. Each year, approximately 122,000 people are awaiting organ transplant in the U.S. and of those people waiting, 5600 of them live in Georgia. Unfortunately many people will not live to receive lifesaving organs due to lack of donation.
Ms. Ide shared that one donor gift has the potential to touch sixty recipients. There is really no age minimum or limit to donation. Healthy organ transplant has occurred from a donor as young as 4 days old to one who was 90 years old. There is no cost to the donor family once the organ donation process has been confirmed and all donor and recipient information is kept strictly confidential until a time when both parties mutually decide that they would like to speak and/or meet.
A few myths about organ donation were addressed. Ms. Ide shared that organ procurement does not disfigure a person, nor will it delay the funeral process. She also stressed that the only way a person can be an organ donor is if they are in a hospital and have been confirmed to be brain dead. It is at this point that LifeLink can be called in to work with the family for procurement.

Ms. Ide reminded the club that April is “National Donate Life Month”.
A Final welcome was made to our newest members, Linda Tucciarone, Leigh Porterfield, and Kevin Mayne.
Next Meeting May 2, 2016 and the speaker will be Dan Hillman - Child Enrichment and CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocate.
