Meeting Minutes
President Scott rang the bell and called the meeting to order. The pledge and invocation was given by Jeff Spears. Jim Simless welcomed our guests and visiting Rotarians. Thanks to James Hefner and the outside challenger, Signature Speech Services, LLC, the club raised $305.64.00 for CART at our last meeting. Brad Means gave our Sunshine Report.
Announcements
- John Witwell requested members support the CART Fund in additional ways, such as a birthday fundraiser on Facebook, etc.
- Ed Presnell introduced our newest member Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw. Welcome to the club, Kenneth.
- President Scott discussed our club’s Signature Fundraiser. The club is asking members to buy or sell three tickets. Scott shared a video.
- Ron Skenes, Director of Public Relations and Development for the Christ Community Health Church Services, discussed their mission and impact to the community.
Program:
Shell Berry introduced our guest speaker Frank Spears, Ambassador for ShelterBox. Frank discussed his involvement with ShelterBox. ShelterBox is a global disaster relief charity that provides immediate emergency shelter and other lifesaving aid to survivors of a disaster or humanitarian crisis. ShelterBox is a nonprofit that relies on private donations to provide emergency shelter to disaster survivors. ShelterBox does not receive funding from any government entity. Funding is from individuals and organizations including Rotary Clubs.
In April 2000, the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard in Cornwall, England started ShelterBox as its millennium project. In 2002, ShelterBox’s American affiliate was adopted as a project of the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch in Sarasota, FL. In 2004, ShelterBox USA was officially established as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Following the presentation, President Scott led us in reciting the four way test and then adjourned the meeting.
