  • He also reminded the club that Rotarian Wes Brown is presenting a Rotary merit badge opportunity for scouts on December 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a great opportunity for Rotarians to teach scouts in the areas of citizenship in the community, the nation, and the world, as well as, law and communications.
  • President Leland thanked Leigh Porterfield and Trip Harrison for hosting Oktoberfest last Monday night. It was a great event featuring a wine and craft beer tasting along with live music. A good time was had by all and it has already been announced that we are doing it again for St. Patrick’s Day.

PROGRAM:

President Leland called on Lowell Greenbaum to introduce our speaker, Kat Ernce, Executive Director of the Senior Citizens Council.

The Council is a non-profit 501c3 established in 1968 to provide senior adult services in two distinct areas, advocacy and the Senior Corps.  They are proud to celebrate their 50th anniversary this year.

The Senior Corp is a nationwide network of volunteer programs that allows individuals an opportunity to get involved and help in their community. Some of the programs include Senior Companions and Foster Grandparents.

On the advocacy side, the Council helps seniors make positive and informed decisions. They educate seniors on various frauds to look out for and ways to avoid being a victim of abuse.

Anyone wishing to learn more about the Councils services should call or check out their website at www.seniorcitizenscouncil.org.

REMINDER:

Our next meeting will be October 29 and will feature Dr. Lee Ann Caldwell, the co-author of the new Historic Augusta book.

The meeting was adjourned with the Four Way Test.
